Job Opening:   Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) – or –

                          Senior Environmental Health Specialist (SREHS)

 

Position Type: Full-time

Salary Range: REHS Starting Salary: $71,400.00

                          SREHS Starting Salary: $81,600.00 

                          Position includes a comprehensive benefit package.

 

Under the direction of the Health Officer, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Performs sanitary inspections for compliance with applicable public and environmental health regulations; investigates complaints of nuisances and violations of applicable public health laws and ordinances; reviews and may approve plans for residential, commercial, and industrial development as necessary to ensure compliance with sanitary, environmental, and public health laws, rules, and ordinances; investigates foodborne, airborne, waterborne, and other suspected disease outbreaks as required; initiates and completes enforcement action including preparation of notices and provides testimony during legal proceedings; maintains accurate paper and electronic records of surveys, investigations, and inspections performed; may respond to emergency situations; the position may require periodic evening and/or weekend activities.

Must possess an active Registered Environmental Health Specialist License issued by the NJ Department of Health and Senior Services. Appointees will be required to possess a current driver’s license valid in New Jersey.

 

Note: Senior Registered Environmental Health Specialist must have three (3) years of experience in performing the duties incumbent upon a Registered Environmental Health Specialist in the enforcement of relevant sanitary, environmental, and public health laws and rules.

 

Preferred Additional Qualifications: In-depth working knowledge of on-site wastewater disposal systems (septic systems)
