Household Hazardous Waste Disposal

Morris County MUA operates a year-round Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Facility in Flanders. In an effort to make managing household hazardous waste more convenient for Morris County Residents, the MCMUA has a permanent HHW facility that allows residents to dispose of hazardous materials throughout the year. The HHW Facility is open by appointment on most Tuesday, Friday and Saturday mornings. Eligible households will be charged a $1.25/lb disposal fee. Acceptable Materials:

  • E-Waste: Computers, monitors, televisions, printers, scanners, phones, faxes, peripherals (e.g. mice, drives, keyboards, etc.)
  • Pesticides, Herbicides and Fertilizers Aerosol Cans (not empty)
  • Household Cleaning Products
  • Oil-Based Paints and Stains
  • Paint Thinners and Solvents
  • Automobile Fluids: - Antifreeze - Motor Oil - Transmission, Steering & Brake Fluids -
  • Gasoline, Kerosene & Diesel Fuel
  • Batteries: Button Cell, Lithium, Rechargeable, Automotive, Motorcycle and Boat
  • Pool/Darkroom Chemicals
  • Chemistry Sets (call to confirm chemicals)
  • Fluorescent Light Bulbs & PCB-Ballasts
  • Driveway Sealant & Roofing Tar
  • Propane ($5/BBQ-sized cyl.) & Helium Cylinders
  • Fire Extinguishers
  • Mercury & Mercury-containing Devices

Unacceptable Materials:

  • Medical Waste Latex (Water-based): These should be dried out and disposed of with the trash.
  • Empty Containers: Once a container is empty, it can be recycled or disposed of in the normal manner.
  • Unknown Materials: If unlabeled or unidentifiable, the waste may not be acceptable.
