It has been brought to the Township’s attention that there are unauthorized individuals soliciting services throughout Mount Olive. As per Township ordinance, a license is required for any individual who goes from house to house without an appointment engaging in the practice of merchandising of any nature (except for charitable, non-profit, political, and religious organizations). The holder of a solicitor’s license is required to carry the license with them and be worn in a manner that is readily visible while engaged in the solicitation activity. Each solicitor’s license is unique to the specific individual and not provided to any one company as a “blanket license”. Residents are encouraged to ask solicitors for their license before engaging in conversation or calling the Township Clerk’s Office at 973-691-0900 ext. 7290 to verify license. It is important to note, the Township is not responsible for the workmanship of any individual who has obtained a solicitor’s license. Residents are encouraged to do their own research on the company and/or service before moving forward.
If any resident feels a license holder has conducted the business of soliciting in an unlawful manner, you may file a complaint against the solicitor to the Township Clerk or the Police Department. Furthermore, if you are solicited by an individual who does not possess a license, please contact the Township Clerk or the Police Department immediately.
In the best interest and protection of residents, the Mount Olive Township Council has authorized a “no solicitors” list for those residents who wish to not have solicitors at their place of residence. The non-solicitation list is distributed to applicants seeking a license to solicit. The licensee shall not solicit at any address listed.
