Traffic Unit

The Traffic Unit is a subunit within the Support Services Division and is under the supervision of Lt. Paul Ottavinia.

Every officer assigned to the Traffic Unit has obtained extensive training in traffic related areas, such as Advanced Crash Investigation, Crash Reconstruction, and Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement.

The Traffic Unit serves a variety of responsibilities including:

  • Investigating Traffic Complaints received from residents, other patrol officers, township officials, or any other person.
  • Analyze crash reports to identify areas where traffic enforcement or engineering should be improved.
  • Oversee the Department’s investigation of Traffic Crashes. In addition, the Traffic Unit investigates all serious crashes involving serious bodily injury or fatalities.
  • Conducting aggressive and/or impaired driving details.
  • Traffic Education and Public Awareness.
  • Assist with specialized traffic details such as funeral processions & community events.
  • Fleet Management.
