Chief Stephen Beecher
 

In 1983, Chief Beecher graduated Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pennsylvania with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology/Social Service. Following graduation, he went to work for the Morris County Youth Center as a Social Worker. In 1985 he attended New York City’s Fordham University on weekends to obtain a Masters Certificate in Social Work. That same year he was hired as an Intake Worker to investigate allegations of child abuse with the State of New Jersey’s then Division of Youth and Family Services.  In February of 1987, Chief Beecher was hired by the Mount Olive Township Police Department. He is a graduate of the Morris County Police Academy’s 29th Basic Police Class.

Upon graduation from the Morris County Police Academy, Chief Beecher was assigned to the Patrol Division. In 1995, he was promoted to Patrol Sergeant. In 2000, he was promoted to Lieutenant and was transferred to Support Services as Commander. In 2004, Beecher was assigned as Patrol Division Commander. He was promoted to Captain in 2012 and in August 2016 was promoted to Chief of Police.

During his career he has received numerous departmental awards including Honorable Service, Program Development, Physical Fitness and Educational Achievement. Beecher is a past Field Training Officer, Task Force Officer, and member of the department’s Special Operations Unit. Until his promotion to Chief in 2012, he had been the police departments Selection and Recruitment Coordinator since 1994. Chief Beecher is a graduate of the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Regional Training Center at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He is a graduate of the West Point Command and Leadership Program, the 11th Session of the New Jersey State Chiefs of Police Executive Institute, and the Certified Public Manager Program through Rutgers University. Chief Beecher is an Accredited Command Executive Chief of Police-Advanced, through the New Jersey State Chiefs of Police.  He is a past Secretary, and Sergeant at Arms and Vice President for the Morris County Chiefs of Police Association. He is the 2021 President of the Association. Chief Beecher is the Chairman of the New Jersey State Chiefs of Police Accredited Chief/Command Executive Certification Program. He is presently an Advisory Board Member to the Mount Olive Child Education and Learning Center and Berkeley College; Committee Member of the Morris County Juvenile Detention and Alternatives Initiative; and the Police Diversion Sub-Committee of Juvenile Detention Alternatives.
